Throughout the course of his roles as surgeon, clinician and professor of surgery at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine, Dr. Mark Holterman has influenced the development and advancement of medicine. A major supporter and organizer of the International Pediatric Specialists Alliance for the Children of Vietnam (IPSAC-VN), Dr. Mark Holterman works with medical schools and hospitals to improve health care for the children in Vietnam. The IPSAC-VN also works to set up high-quality medical facilities in some of the country’s rural areas.
Another of his global medical activities, the Children’s Surgery International (CSI), is a non-profit volunteer organization, that works with local surgical doctors and nurses to meet the needs of underprivileged children around the world.
