A Life Worth Admiring

You can’t keep a determined woman down; if she believes she can do she will get it done. That’s why you should never underestimate the strength and the power of a woman. Who would have thought an Asian girl born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Sri Lankan parents would become one of the world’s top investors and philanthropist? Malini Saba is that Asian girl who pulled herself up by her own bootstraps and has, as a result of that effort, become one of the world’s most powerful business women on a national and international scale.

Malini Saba is a woman whose life has impacted the world of business and investments. She is Chairman of Saban, a worldwide investment company whose varied interest include technology companies in the United States, oil and gas properties in China, and real estate in Australia and India. Ms. Saba’s passion, however, is philanthropy especially when it involves women. In 2001 she founded “Stree Global Investments in Woman the first of many initiatives focused on changing the way poor and at risk woman and children look at themselves and their roles in society. “Stree” provided women with a way to access healthcare, get legal empowerment, and provide a grassroots movement to connect with public policy in third world countries in Africa, Central America, India, and Eastern Europe. This shows that this is a woman who is not self-serving; as she is elevated she works to elevate others.

Ms. Saba is not the kind of woman who accepts “No” as an answer, nor does she believe in impossibilities. Her story is that she early in her career was a gate crasher. Wherever investment bankers met, she found a way to be there too. She talked with them, sought, received, and utilized their advice. It wasn’t always easy. Many times she was taken advantage of by corrupt individuals who felt there was no place in the investment world for her. Their actions and attitudes caused her to lose time and money, but she never lost faith and confidence in herself.

Malini Saba is an exceptional person. She started a career in the 90’s that has not only been successful, but also made her tremendously wealthy. Not once did she turn away from those less fortunate. She extended her hand and made an effort to pull them up where they belong. Her life is one that is worth imitating.
